Anthony Lawrence Carey was born on 16 October 1953 in Watsonville, California/USA.

His talent was early discovered by his parents. His father bought him an old piano on which Tony made his first excursions into the world of music.

In 1970, just being 17 years old, he made his first band-experience with “Blessings”. When he was 22, h was able to play nearly all music-instruments– besides sax. In 1975 he left “Blessings” after he had demonstrated his talent to Ritchie Blackmore whom he met in a rehearsal-room in Hollywood.

Right afterwards he joined “Rainbow” and  toured nearly 3 years with the band, but left it then. The reason: “Ritchie was pretty delicate…”

In 1978 Tony Carey came to Germany for some studio takes where he got to know Peter Hauke. He migrated to Frankfurt to record some albums which he produced himself.

In 1982 his first album “Tony Carey” was published which was re-issued in 1987 under the title “I won’t be home tonight”. Following he originated the
“Planet P Project”; and in 1983 and 1984 two albums were published under this title. In 1984 another top hit followed with “A fine fine day”.

During his cooperation with Peter Hauke, Tony met Peter Maffay in 1984. To this day, Tony is not only bound with Peter Maffay by the music but either by a close friendship as well. In 1986 Tony was invited as special guest to the “Sonne in der Nacht”-tour. Afterwards he canceled his agreement with Peter Hauke.

He moved to Tutzing near to the studio to continue his work with Peter Maffay. Finally in 1987 the first self-produced album occurred and the soundtrack to the film “Der Joker” with Peter Maffay. Tony became very quickly a regulars in the band; in 1987 they went together on the “Lange Schatten”-tour . Another title for a film followed in cooperation with Klaus Lage, Dieter Dehm and Joe Cocker. “Now that you’re gone” was the title song to the Schimanski-film “Zabou”, sang by Joe Cocker. In 1989 he had a smash-hit in Germany with the song “Room with a view”, which was the title to a TV series “Wilder Westen inclusive”.

Until today, Tony Carey has worked together with many stars as for example Chris Norman, Peter Maffay and Ina Morgan.

In 1992 the album “The long road” was published under production of Erwin Musper. Again his hits were heard on the radio, “When she started to dance” – title song of the TV series “Die Eisprinzessin” – or “Wonderland” and “Jail” in the telecast “Gottschalk”. Tony was enthusiastically welcomed and acclaimed on his “The Long Road Acoustic”-tour.

In summer 1993 he was part of a festival where he performed on stage together with Purple Schulz, Pe Werner, Die Prinzen, Die Fantastischen Vier and the band Schulze. In 1994 he issued the album “Cold war kids” and he performed very successfully two new songs in the Norwegian TV.

Since February 2003 he has been working with Peter Maffay on “Tabaluga”. Together with Pascal Kravetz and Martin Hämmerle he has been performing live in small clubs. Tony has not only enthused his fans, some coming from all over the world, but either the journalists very much.

Up to this day he has not only published more than 30 albums but also produced music stars like Joe Cocker, John Mayall, Peter Maffay, Eric Burdon, Milva an many more and has either become an established composer of film music.

Currently Tony has been performing with Lesley Mandoki’s SOULMATES together with Chris Thompson (Earth Band), Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull), Gary Brooker (Procol Harum), Bobby Kimball (Toto), Peter Frampton, Eric Burdon and many others.
